With a significant portion of the VO population being home to Black people of the Caribbean and African diaspora, we feel it necessary to highlight and appreciate Black-owned businesses in VO, as they are the pillars of our community. In addition to their importance, due to many factors including gentrification and the LRT construction, over a hundred Black-owned businesses in Little Jamaica closed down, and because of that, we ask that you not take your local Black-owned business for granted, and support them. We've provided a list of Black-owned businesses in VO divided by food, health & beauty, and retail & services. Check 'em out!
To learn more about the owners of these businesses, please visit the Oakwood Village BIA's website to read about their remarkable stories.

The Vaughan-Oakwood Youth Network, working within Tkaronto (so-called Toronto), are on the traditional territories of many Indigenous nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnawbe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples.
Indigenous nations have cared for this land for many generations before they were colonised by European settlers decades ago. As settlers, it is our responsibility to be aware of our place in the history of colonialism and to commit to protecting and caring for this land and all those that live upon it.
