When you search "Vaughan and Oakwood area" (a.k.a. Oakwood Village or Oakwood-Vaughan) on Google maps, the above map comes up, with the border lines. But we are going to let you decide if you are a VO youth or not.
Some say the VO neighborhood goes all the way to Bathurst Street. Some say if you live anywhere along Vaughan Road then you are in VO. Regardless, we will let you decide.
Do you consider yourself a VO youth? Do you feel like you belong to the neighborhood and community in any way? Do you or did you perhaps spend a lot of time with friends/family in the area? Does VO feel like a second home to you? Work here? School here? These are all things that can make you a part of the neighborhood.
The Vaughan-Oakwood Youth Network, working within Tkaronto (so-called Toronto), are on the traditional territories of many Indigenous nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnawbe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples.
Indigenous nations have cared for this land for many generations before they were colonised by European settlers decades ago. As settlers, it is our responsibility to be aware of our place in the history of colonialism and to commit to protecting and caring for this land and all those that live upon it.
